Four-year Anniversary of American Academy of Art Press

2 Bill Parks Gallery, Chicago, Illinois, February 2007

American Academy of Art Press was established by Michael Goro in the Spring of 2003. The four-year anniversary of non-digital printing at the American Academy of Art showcased work created by Michael Goro’s graduate and undergraduate students using non-digital printing methods that include letterpress and silkscreen. The show invited visitors to examine the historic development of these two different printing methods and observe demonstrations.

According to Goro’s teaching philosophy “getting the hands dirty” is an essential part of art and design education. He encourages his students to step away from computers and experiment with textures, gestural drawing and experimental typography while creating posters, clothing designs and artist’s books.

Michael is grateful to Columbia College’s Center for Book and Paper Arts and the Newbery Library for their inspiration and techincal support.
